MÓNICA MENDES [Portuguese, b. Angola | Living in Portugal]
is an assistant professor at the Multimedia Art degree at FBAUL – Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, designer and researcher in Digital Media Arts. She is also a researcher at M-ITI – Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute, collaborator at CIEBA – Artistic Studies Research Centre, and a founding member of the AZ Labs hackerspace altLab.

Interested in designing for a better world, Mónica created the ARTiVIS project in the scope of her PhD in Digital Media, and continues to explore the emotion of real-time in interactive systems at the intersection of Art, Science and Technology.

The research has been accomplished with the collaboration of people from diverse contexts and backgrounds, whether research institutions, hackerspaces, or local populations, and has taken place in a series of events, including artistic residencies and sprints, hackerspace meetings and workshops, conferences and exhibitions.

é  professora auxiliar na FBAUL – Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa, designer e investigadora em Media Arte Digital. É também investigadora no M-ITI – Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute, colaboradora no CIEBA – Centro de Investigação e de Estudos em Belas-Artes, e membro fundador do AZ Labs hackerspace altLab.

Interessada em design para um mundo melhor, Mónica criou o projecto ARTiVIS no âmbito do seu doutoramento em Media Digitais, e continua a explorar a emoção em tempo real em sistemas interactivos na intersecção da Arte, Ciência e Tecnologia.

A investigação tem sido concretizada com a colaboração de pessoas de diversos contextos e áreas de formação, incluindo instutuições de investigação, hackerspaces, e populações locais, e tem tido lugar em eventos que vão desde residências artísticas e sprints, encontros de hackerspaces e workshops, conferências e exposições.
